Prosthodontics
WHAT TO EXPECT
What are Prosthodontics?
Prosthodontics, also known as dental prosthetics or prosthetic dentistry, is the area of dentistry that focuses on dental prostheses.
Prosthodontics experts specialize in the aesthetic (cosmetic) restoration and replacement of teeth.
Under the umbrella of prosthodontic services fall the planning, surgical placement and restoration of implants, as well as the the rehabilitation of occlusion, with the help of dental prostheses.
Prosthodontics may also play a part in the treatment and management of dental and facial problems, i.e. the restoration of missing teeth, correcting jaw structures or other clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues.
Services include:
• Full mouth rehabilitation
• Dental crowns
• Dental bridges
• Dentures
• Inlays/onlays
• Veneers
When should you see a Prosthodontist?
Prosthodontists plan and carry out complex procedures related to the replacement of natural teeth, in part or in full, with biocompatible materials and tend to other oral and maxillofacial tissues problems.
● Porcelain Veneers — in case you need long-lasting solutions to change and correct the size, shape or color of teeth, and even close teeth gaps.
● Crowns — in case you have broken, misshaped, and fractured teeth that need repairing or if you followed a root canal procedure.
● Dental Implants — in case your oral surgeon replaced one or more of your teeth, your prosthodontist will design and place the implant crowns; you also need such a service if you need supplemental support for other types of dental restorations.
● Fixed Bridges — in case you need such type of dental support to hold in place the crowns used to replace your missing teeth.
● Dentures — in case this is the best method to restore your smile and teeth functions.
